What licensing approvals do I need?

There are 3 types of licensing approvals you need to consider when wishing to duplicate commercial music

on to a sound module:

1. Publishing Approval – Go to www.ascap.com or www.bmi.com to find out who the publisher(s) of

the music. You contact them to get the rights to the music and tell them that you are putting a specific

section onto a sound module for a project (they will want a full description). They will also want to know

the quantity. Of course, there are fees.

2. Master Recording Approval – So if Frank Sinatra sang a song on an album, look at who that

recording was made by and contact them for the approval. Usually hard to get (IF they return your phone

call). There will be a fee.
